URGENT NEED TO REACH OUT

At World Oceans Arts and AcquaTroupe, we understand the importance of the arts' ability to help people, to change the world, to respond to human need. In that vein we are thinking about Texas and the overwhelming devastation that so many of its people are witnessing in the aftermath of a hurricane. We urge all of our artists and friends and contacts to pray for Texas, to send a few dollars if you can, to think of a way in which you might lend moral or material support where so many people are left homeless or penniless or shattered. In 2018 World Oceans/AcquaTroupe will embark on a huge project we call "All 51" -- at least one live performance and one day of filming or recording in each and every state of the USA plus the District of Columbia. The Texas segment of that exciting project will significantly feature ways in which we can use the arts to lift up the people living in the areas affected by this disaster. We welcome ideas and requests in that regard, and we look

I cannot imagine a day without hearing songs. Decades ago my father, and later I myself, were proud members of the renowned University of Michigan Men's Glee Club. I still remember the thrill of learning and sharing beautiful music with dozens of other people who loved singing more than anything else in life. People

Core Values

As much as possible, many of us in the arts go out of our way to avoid getting embroiled in a lot of the complex controversy which exists in every part of life. We love to escape to our dream fantasy worlds, where we can be stars, be loved, be special, and be creative. The arts have been a refuge since human time began. But the arts are also perhaps the most powerful conduit of expressing the human experience. As is often said in various ways, people can hate each other and hate life, but everybody likes music. In times of stress and conflict, when people and societies and nations and faiths are struggling to define themselves and to survive, the arts cannot ignore the world. We artists must at times be the messenger, the explorer, the interpreter, the mediator. I have never forgotten the motto which is prominent at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of my favorite and most inspiring places in the world: "In the Arts There Are No Enemies".  So as the founding direct

Launching New Projects

Every day is important in our work and our chosen fields...but this week and this month are particularly momentous in World Oceans Arts' launching of new ventures. We began production of two movies this week! They are a sibling pair: AcquaTroupe!  (starring TessWilliams) tells the story of how we recently created a phenomenal live performance ensemble which will share music, theatre and other arts in performing spaces far and wide. The movie combines a dramatic-romantic story with footage of the real-life troupe coming together for the first time. The twin of this movie is Surviving in the Arts , in which a series of autobiographical vlogs allow artists to describe their delicate balance between artistic career dreams and the harsh necessities of life in society. This week we began obtaining wonderful footage for this film with the amazing actress-singer Kate Brady of New York. This month we also begin working with prominent dancers and dance companies as we initiate a celebrat
